On September 20th, 2015 Colorado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Stapleton held it’s second Girls in Gis event. Much like the previous event, it was a day to remember. The event was led by long time Girls in Gis member Teri Stewart. Teri is not only on of Colorado’s esteemed purple belts, but an instructor and business owner. Her and her husband graciously opened their doors to host this event. For those that were able to make it, it was an intimate event filled with lots of laughter, comrade and sisterhood.
The warm up was led by Teri and Natalie. It was what you would anticipate for a warm up at COBJJ which lasted around 30 minutes. It began with what is called a 20-20-20(20 jump squats, 20 push ups and 20 triangle sit ups). Next up was the helicopters, knee circles and swings. To prepare the girls for the self defense technique to follow Teri and Natalie had the girls practices falls and standing up in base. An essential part of any self defense program. But the fun didn’t stop there. The remainder of the warm up was spent doing core exercises, strength training and much more. Needless to say the girls were warm once the instruction began.
Next up it was time for some bear hugs. You’re probably thinking of the warm and fuzzy type, but what we are talking about here are the types that end in a knee bar or an arm bar or better yet an elbow lock. These are the arsenal of techniques you have to have in your repertoire, but hope you never need to use. Self defense is not an option, its a necessity.
None of this would have been possible if not for the hospitaity of Colorado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Stapleton, Teri and Natalie. Thank you for making this a memoriable event. Thank you to everyone that came out to support the event and further the bonds that unite us. We are coming to an end for our 2015 Colorado event season. Our next event will be very special. Not only will it be the last of the season, but we will be celebrating our 6th anniversary! Stay tuned for more details!!
