Girls in Gis presents Ask A Black Belt w/ Rachel Morrison Casias

This is your chance to ask questions about techniques, culture, and life from one of the world’s leading female black belts!

Guest: Rachel Morrison Casias

Rachel Morrison Casias is a second degree black belt under Robert Drysdale and Ray Casias. She trains at Tennessee Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Spring Hill Tennessee, and competes for team Zenith. She is married to Ray Casias. They have two children, Gabby, 10, and Tristan, 7.

Rachel was the first female in Tennessee to win any world title. She was also the first female in Tennessee to win a Pan Am Championship. She currently has won her Pan Am division for the last seven years in a row, with five of those years being in the black belt division. In addition, she has added three more master world titles as well.

By trade, Mrs. Casias is a federal litigation attorney. She has practiced law in Tennessee since 2005. However, in October 2020, she resigned from her law firm. Rachel was diagnosed with young onset Alzheimers. She is currently focusing on spending time with her husband and children, as well as advocating for more research regarding young onset Alzheimers. She is still teaching jiu-jitsu seminars and camps.

Girls in Gis presents Real Talk: Women’s Health Part 1 Vaginas

Join us and our guest panel as we discuss the women’s health issues in the sport of jiu jitsu. This time, with a focus on vaginas. We’ll discuss periods, hormones, pelvic floors, and of course pregnancy.

Panel Guests:

Erika Fore: Erika is a blue belt training at Lōgōs Jiu Jitsu in Denver, Colorado. A former health, sex and relationship coach, she now focuses on sexuality education for youth and reproductive justice in metro Denver.

Michele Syska: Michele graduated from Wayne State University, where she received a master degree in physical therapy. She began treating patients with pelvic floor dysfunction in 2003. She has been consistently treating all types of pelvic pain and weakness issues for both men and women.

Dr Edna Becht: Edna joined the Atlantic Medical Center as a board-certified family medicine physician in August 2016. She provides comprehensive family medicine services, including obstetric care. Dr. Becht grew up in Indiana. She attended Indiana University where she received bachelor’s degrees in French in 2006 and in Biology in 2007. She went on to earn a master’s degree in Biology from Indiana University-Purdue University in 2008. Dr. Becht graduated from Des Moines University with a Doctor of Osteopathy in 2013, and completed her family medicine residency at Memorial Family Medicine in South Bend, Indiana, in 2016.
